Gar-Field High School concert bands are structured instrumental music ensembles that focus on performing wind and percussion literature. They typically feature woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, and serve as a core component of comprehensive music education programs through seasonal concerts, festivals, and state assessments.

 

Typical Ensemble Levels

GFHS organizes their band programs into tiered ensembles determined by student skill level and auditions:

• Concert Band: Often functions as an intermediate or foundational class focusing on fundamental techniques and Grade I-II literature.

• Symphonic Band: Usually serves as an intermediate-to-advanced group tackling more complex Grade II - IV repertoire.

• Wind Ensemble: The premier, highly selective advanced group performing challenging Grade IV - V repertoire.

• Literature types: Includes original concert band compositions, marches, folk song settings, and classical transcriptions.

• Events: Ensembles perform at seasonal home concerts (such as Winter and Spring showcases) and district evaluation assessments.

• Extension groups: Programs often branch out into specialized subsets like jazz bands, percussion ensembles, or flute choirs
